How many wax cubes should you use in a warmer? For BlueRidge Whispers wax melts, start with one cube if that amount is suitable for your warmer. Consider a second only if the manufacturer's instructions allow it and the dish has enough capacity. Your warmer's directions take priority: there is no single cube count that fits every model or wax brand.
A little mountain comfort should be easy to enjoy. Here is how to choose an amount, adjust the fragrance, and avoid filling the dish with more wax than it can hold.
Start with your warmer's capacity
Check the manual, product label, or markings on the dish for the recommended amount of wax. Cube sizes differ between brands, and a small plug-in dish may hold much less than a larger tabletop dish. A bigger room does not increase your warmer's capacity.
Manufacturer guidance varies. Scentsy advises checking the recommended cube count marked on its warmer dishes. Yankee Candle's wax-melt guide describes starting with one cube. Apply the directions for the warmer and wax you actually own.
How many BlueRidge Whispers cubes should you use?
Our standard wax melts come in a 2.4 oz clamshell divided into six cubes. That works out to approximately 0.4 oz per cube, although individual pieces can vary slightly. The whole package is intended for multiple uses, not automatically for one dish.
- Read the instructions. Confirm that your warmer is suitable for wax melts and check its capacity.
- Start with one cube when permitted. Let it melt and assess the fragrance before deciding whether you want more.
- Adjust within the limit. If the scent is too light, a second cube is an option only when the warmer's directions and dish capacity allow it. Follow the manufacturer's procedure for adding or changing wax.
- Stop at a comfortable fragrance level. You do not need to fill the dish to the top.
Does using more wax make the scent stronger?
Adding wax can change fragrance intensity, but two cubes do not guarantee twice the scent. The fragrance, warmer, room, and airflow all affect what you notice. If one cube gives you the experience you want, there is no need to add another.
If the fragrance seems weak, check that the warmer is operating correctly and that you are using the specified bulb, where applicable. If the wax has already lost its scent, replace it rather than continually topping up the dish. Never fit a higher-wattage bulb to try to make the fragrance stronger.
What about small plug-in warmers or large rooms?
For a small plug-in warmer, follow its specific limit; even one large cube from another brand may be too much. Do not choose a cube count based only on how the dish looks.
For an open living area, first assess the scent with the recommended amount. Keep the warmer in a suitable location according to its instructions. Overfilling a small dish is not a way to make it suitable for a larger room.
Can you reuse the wax or add a fresh cube to old wax?
You can warm the same wax again while you still enjoy its fragrance, following your warmer's operating instructions each time. Wax remains in the dish as its scent fades; you do not need to keep heating until it disappears.
When the fragrance is spent, switch off the warmer and follow its instructions for cooling, removing the wax, and cleaning the dish. Start fresh instead of repeatedly adding cubes to old wax. Never pour wax down a drain.
How long should you leave the warmer on?
The amount of wax does not determine a safe running time. Follow the operating limits for your particular model and switch it off before bed or leaving home. For more detail, read how long you can leave a wax warmer on.
